Chronicles of Aster does not try to reinvent the fantasy RPG. Instead it does the classic formula very well: a party of heroes, a long journey and battles that ask you to think.
How it plays
The highlight is the battle timeline at the top of the screen, which shows exactly who acts next. Delaying a boss by one turn or lining up your healer before a big attack feels great, and fights rarely become button mashing.
What could be better
The story loses pace in the third and fourth kingdoms, where side quests pad out the journey. The download is also large, and older phones may struggle in busy towns.
Should you play it?
If you enjoy long turn-based RPGs, yes. Chronicles of Aster has dozens of hours of good content, a free new chapter and fair monetisation.
